Project-Based Learning
I've used Project-Based Learning quite a bit in my Honors English 1 class. Because the students are so self-directed, PBL is ideal for harnessing their creativity and drive.
One example of PBL I've done in HE1 is when they had to take an issue present in a book, identify a resulting problem, and develop a solution. Along the way they researched solutions others have tried and tied in the issue/problem with other texts they discovered.
